Ekasillanagaram - Vontimitta - Sri Kodandarama Swamy temple

Sri Kondandarama Swamy temple belongs to the Vijayanagara kings during the 16th century. Kishkindakanda, one of the 7 kandas of the Ramayanam, is believed to have happened in Vontimitta, Kadapa. The temple is 450 years old. It is situated on the Tirupathi - Kadapa highway.

Vontimitta also has another name Ekasillanagaram, mean a single stone village, the temple was built on a single rock.  The temple has three entrances on East, North and South, each surrounded by a big gopuram which resembles the heritage construction during Vijayanagar king period.




The idol of Rama, Lakshmana and Sita is said to have been installed by Jambuvantha. The walls and pillars of the temple are embellished with intricate carvings. Near the temple is a Rama theertham, a Lakshmana theertham and a meditation hall. It is said that Rama and Lakshmana struck the earth with arrows to bring out the Pathalaganga to quench the thirst of living creatures. (Source: Wikipedia) 

It is believed that it also a hometown of Bammera Pothana, a famous Telugu poet of 16th century. He is also referred as Valamiki of Andhra. 

During the festival of sreerama navami, there will be chariot pulling on which the idol of lord Rama and Sita go around the streets of vontimitta. After the sreerama navami, on the full-moon day the marriage, the kalyanam will be followed in a grand manner, from 2015 onwards TTD is performing swamyvari kalayam, Ram kalayanam.

From 2014 onwards the Andhrapradesh Endowment ministry is celebrating sreerama kalyanam festival at a grand manner with all funds from government. Now this temple is also called as Second Ayyodhya or Andhra Ayyodhya or Rendova Ayyodhya or South Ayyodhya. 

Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation has also built guest houses and hotel which is very close to temple (300 meters ). 


How to go:
From Kadapa - The place is at a distance of 25 kms (approx.) , From Tirupathi - the place is at a distance of 116 kms (approx.) by bus route. 
If u need to go by train take a (intercity) train from Kadapa to Vontimitta. or from Tirupathi to Vontimitta.  Bus inquiry can get from here.
