Annamayya Project | Dam on Cheyyeru River

Annamayya Project is a medium irrigation project in Kadapa district. It is constructed on the Cheyyeru river, near Badanagadda Village of Rajampet Mandal. The foundation stone for this project was laid in the year April 1976, then CM of Andhra Pradesh Sri Jalagam Vengalarao, later on, the project completed in the year 2001. 


This project is useful for Agriculture and drinking water for 140 habitations under Rajampet Mandal. The places which are getting benefitted from the project are Akepadu, Hastavaram, Mandapalle, Rajampet, Pullampet Mandals, Utukur, Bramhanapalle, Mittampalle, Puttanavaripalli, Devasamudram, Seshamambapuram, Balrajupalli, Mannuru, Anantharajugaripalli etc., 

The length of the canal is 23.63 km. The under right main canal covers 22,500 acres. 

The Cheyyeru River is a tribute to Pennar river, The Cheyyeru river finally meets Pennar River at Rachapalli and this river finally goes into the Bay of Bengal at Utukuru of Nellore district. Cheyyeru river is a Tributary to Pennar river.

Pincha, Bahuda, Puttageyru (from Tirumala hills), Mandavya, Ganganeyru are Merged as form as Cheyyeru River, which means a hand which is having five fingers, In Telugu hand means "Cheyyi". The five fingers of a hand.
