Parasurameeswaram Temple Attirala | Sri Parasurama Temple | Archaeological Temple

Parasurama Temple, located on the river bank of Cheyyaru as the story depicts from Mahabharatha. A Temple which is very close to Rajampet.
To the sage Jamadagni and Renuka there are seven sons, one among them was Parasurama. Renuka was known for her virtue and dedication to her significant other. Such was her confidence, that she could bring water from the waterway in a pot of unbaked mud, with the pot held together just by the quality of her commitment. One day while at the waterway, a gathering of Gandharvas in a chariot gone by in the sky above. Loaded with longing for one minute, the unbaked pot she held broken down in the stream. Reluctant to come back to her better half, she held up at the waterway bank, unverifiable of what to do next. Then, Jamadagni saw his better half had not returned. Through his yogic forces, he divined all that had occurred and was chafed.

The Sage Jamadagni called his eldest son, gave him a axe and requested that the song slaughter his mom. Stunned, the son can't, thus Jamadagni swung him to stone. He then solicited each from his sons, and as they can't, one by one, he swung them to stone. At long last just his most youthful child, Parashurama, was cleared out. Ever faithful, the son stabbed with axe on her mother. Later parasurama, travelling across all the river and washing the axe to remove the blood stains. When he reaches to the southern part of India, where the river Cheyyaru (Bahudha) flows and he cleaned the axe in that river immediately the blood stains are cleared from the axe. The place where the blood stains for that axe is named as Hatyarala (which means Hatya (telugu word) – killing, rala – removed off). In the further existence this place has been named from Hatyarala to Attirala.
Later on the Chola kings ruling this era, constructed the Parasurama temple here in this place on the bank of river Cheyyaru (Bahuda). The temple depicts the carving of Lord Vishnu, Lord Sri Krishna and Parasurama. Apart from Parasurama temple in this location one can see Lord Vishnu in the form of Gadadhara standing with one leg and the other temple is for Lord Shiva as Treteswara temple. There will be a Jyothistambham on the hill lock of this temple site, during Mahasivaratri festival a jyoti (a light) will be lighted on this Jyothistambham which can be visible around 30 km distance.
